International Forum „Baltic Trade Union Council Meeting”

The regular meeting of representatives of trade union federations from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania took place in Lithuania this year. The program included traditional work issues such as the current situation in the three countries and the challenges faced by trade unions.

Participants from Estonia presented the new labor dispute law, Lithuanians analyzed the situation two years after the adoption of the new and controversial Labor Code. The Forum was attended by the Head of the ILO Office for Europe and Central Asia, Sergejus Glovackas, as a speaker. He recalled the current ILO guidelines on worker migration and talked about the C190 convocation on violence and exploitation in the workplace, which was discussed at ILO this spring. The speaker also explained the ILO report "The Future of Work".

Current issues of the Baltic trade unions such as posted employees, immigration from third countries and collective bargaining in the transport sector were analyzed and discussed. These questions will also be analyzed during the meeting of BASTUN (Baltic Sea Trade Union Network) and during the conference of NCCR (Council of Nordic Trade Unions). The representatives of the trade unions of the Baltic States have developed their position on many current topics and exchanged experiences.
