"NDP2027: on our Way to the Nordic Social Policy?"

Together with the Latvian Think-Thank PROVIDUS, the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung organized the conference "NDP2027: on our Way to Nordic Social Policy?" on 16 October 2019.

As part of the public consultation on Latvia's National Development Plan for the years 2021 to 2027, the partners have already held two events during which they discussed the key themes of the NDP and the receipt of EU funding. During the conference on 16 October, the experts dealt with the issues of social inequality and housing. Regarding social inequality, the gini coefficient and the poverty rate were the focus of the debate. In addition to the calculation and meaningfulness of the indicators, especially the access to social benefits and their target group as well as a possible progressive income tax were lively discussed with the participants. The second part of the conference dealt with housing in Latvia and criticized the overcrowding of housing and the lack of affordable housing. In addition to possible solutions such as social housing, the problem of homelessness and possible risk groups were also discussed.
